BAE Systems Marine - Programme Director (1998-2000)

Delivered the ship design and build part of the Type 45 Destroyer programme, managing high value contracts and tenders and laying the groundwork for the project, with the first ship subsequently launched on the Clyde in February 2006. See www.type45.com

BAE Systems Marine has gone through various guises since, and remains the naval shipbuilding component of the multinational defence contractor BAE SYSTEMS.

Thales Optronics - Project Executive (1993-98)

Thales Optronics designs and manufactures electro-optic (EO) systems, modules and components and is one of the world's leading suppliers of this technology. See www.optronics.co.uk

Developed a new area of business, led a number of major bids and development projects, and worked on corporate strategy - a great opportunity to learn about the development and manufacture of complex products.

Scomagg Ltd - Principal Engineer / Project Manager (1988-92)

Scomagg is a software engineering and industrial control company. See www.scomagg.co.uk

Completed a number of ground-breaking industrial control and software engineering projects including a diagnostic and monitoring system for the nuclear power industry and an operator training simulator for Longannet coal-fired power station.

Scottish Hydro-Electric / University of Glasgow (1984-87)

Developed a real-time, multiprocessor power system simulator for on-line tests of experimental turbine controllers and carried out live tests on 32.5MW hydro-turbines and 4.6MW diesel engine generators. This work formed the basis of a PhD. Scottish Hydro-Electric is part of Scottish and Southern Energy.
